This lecture will include a discussion about key nutrient requirements prenatally, how best to obtain these, situations when it may be difficult to obtain these nutrients (e.g. nausea and vomiting), and key resources to help families with nutrition for the whole family.

Swati Scott is an accomplished community dietitian and lactation consultant who has worked in Victoria and Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her experience spans across acute care, primary care, seniors health, home and community care, education and most recently in public health. She has a passion for maternal-infant-early years health and nutrition. She fervently helps families making mealtime the bridge between nutrition and a time for connection.
She believed prenatal nutrition, breast/chest feeding, healthy family meals set the stage for robust health over a lifetime. She continues to play an active role in local, provincial, and global committees and boards that serve perinatal health. She keeps herself updated with new research and continues to solidify her knowledge and skills through participation in conferences, reviewing documents, and developing resources. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, baking, gardening, bicycling, swimming, and paddle boarding. She has lived on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded Coast Salish Territory as an uninvited guest and strives to ensure that Indigenous People’s voices are heard.
